Okay, the site is going to get screwy from here on out. I decided I would move the entire gm directory and all files back to local first, then rewrite the archives so they'll link to the new journal, then finally move the journal here.

So you'll see a journal, but the links aren't going to work right for awhile. When all's a go, I'll post and tell you. Until then, you've been warned. ::crosses fingers::

In case anyone noticed the page had gone a bit... black and white... the .htaccess file had been changed without my knowledge (i rigged it to parse ssi in htm and html files without using the shtml extension. Don't understand? Don't worry about it). It's fixed now.

To Raine: I'll try posting a few when I get the new journal up...

Well now, good news and bad news, least for me.

Good news, I have the other journal software working.
Bad news, the greymatter program that would have imported this journal to that one isn't working.

So, I come to a crossroad. Keep using greymatter, use the other one and try to keep it linked to this one, or ditch this one altogether.

The problem with greymatter, or any perl-based journal software, is that it creates static files. For very small journals, this is fine. But if you post one or more times a day, those files can, and will, add up. And in the case of greymatter, it generates two files, one for the program to read, the other being the html file itself. And it does this for every single entry, even oens that have only one line in it.

Not sure. I see headaches in my future if I try to link the old and new journals correctly, but I don't really want to ditch this one altogether. As much as I'd love to continue using greymatter, there is the space limitation to consider, and I believe my journal is already over a meg and approaching two.

I guess all I can do is try to link to the archives. I'll finish working on the template, skins, and layout in the other first. I still have to redesign the entry pages one last time, then just keep the old archive in a separate folder...

I'm getting a headache just thinking about it.

BTW, does anyone cook? Do they try new recipes? I have so many recipes just floating around that could be useful, but I don't know people who cook... ah well.

Anybody that believes in a higher deity or whatever all have that one question they'd like to ask God if they were to ever meet her (yes HER). Usually it's something along the lines of, "What is the meaning of life?" "What is the nature of the universe?" "What is my purpose?" "Why are we here?" Et cetera.

Me, I have a completely different question. But first, the background.

See Gen. See Gen contact addr.com web hosting. See Gen ask for mySQL support. See Gen tell them to upgrade her account, since only the Gold accounts get mySQL. See Gen get confirmation letter. See Gen use mySQL. See mySQL suddenly stop connecting. See Gen contact support again and wait for reply... and wait... and wait... and wait.

So, with that in mind, my question to God is this.

WHY ARE PEOPLE SUCH F**K-UPS?

Thank you.

see the young girl-child born, waiting to join the world adorned...
You don't? Well, that's okay. She's not that memorable anyway.

See the young girl-maiden there. Not quite woman, plain, not fair...
You don't? I suppose not. She's not one to take notice of.

See the girl-woman in her room, she has reached full bloom...
You don't? Well, I can see. Your eyes may forget as they please.

See the old girl-woman age, you can see the lines on her face...
You don't? It's no wonder. You didn't pay much attention before.

See the old girl-crone die, amidst broken promises lie...
And now you see her, and you mourn,
for all those broken promises, they were yours.

A note to those who actually come here (all, what, two of you? /^^\ ). I'm going to see about switching the backbone of my log. Don't get me wrong, I'll always love Greymatter. The flexibility is wonderful, and the learning curve isn't that high. But I'm looking at the amount of static html files generated and thinking there's got to be a way to save some space, (even if I do have 200MB here. I don't want to use it all up).

So what this means is, at some point (and you will be warned), the site will go down while I change things around. When, where, and how long, I don't know. I'm just warning everyone ahead of time.

Keep your links, though. When I'm through, the link should remain the same. Just know it's going to be broken at some point in the near future.

I'll post again when I think I'm going to switch over. For now, I need to test a few things on the possible new program I may/may not use.

Wish me luck.
