This statement is pretty much how I've always felt about the sub vs. dub anime issue. I just could never word quite as succintly as he.
What kills me is that by preferring a dub, I'm almost seen as less of a 'real' anime fan.
Apparently, people have forgotten a very basic and fundamental right that not even the government can control.
I can like whatever I damn well please, and I don't have to explain myself to anyone.
(Of course, if you like something illegal, well, you're in for rough waters if you're caught.)
I'd like for all those purist, die-hard fans who say subs are god, to try it from a dubber's point of view for awhile. See how you like being made to feel like an idiot or a leper or have someone cough discreetly and just smile to patronize you.
Oh who am I kidding. I'm going to have to deal with intolerant [censored] no matter what happens.
Someone get me a ticket to Shangri-la, please... or key door to animeland...

I think he's right, the problem is that in the old days, the dubs used to be really bad.
Not that I'd actually, you know, *been* ther in the old days, seeing as I'm relatively new to anime and all.
I generally watch subs nowadays, because I've been learning Japanese in school and it's the closest I'll ever get to actually practicing.
But I used to prefer dubs, because, well, *I speak English* , but Kit broke me of the habit, and now I only use them when I really want to watch something and I'm doing something that's keeping me too busy to concentrate on the Japanese, or I'm watching with someone who doesn't want to listen to the Japanese track.
I first got sucked into the language, however, by manga and J-Rock. I will not buy manga in English because the quality of the photocopies is just not as good as the original Japanese art. And the J-Rock's self explaintory. ^_^;;
Needless to say, I don't look down on people who prefer subs. I can relate.
Oh, and the people who don't watch anime or speak Japanese can do very well at making one who does feel like a leper. =_='

My biggest problem with dubs used to be the voice actors. IMHO, the Japanese seiyuu do a better job. But that's been well-nigh eliminated nowadays, so now my biggest problem with dubs is the censoring. But subs can be just as easily censored with no one for the wiser, so. . . bleh. I learn Japanese now.
