This is a rant that was posted (rather unappropriately, IMO, but I won't go there) at the RRyaoi ML. I'm not going to quote the whole thing, but tell me, am I the only one who thinks this part is a wee bit off in some regard?
"Ah, but the anti-semite reply is by far my favorite. you see, all anti-smites, that is , Jew haters, must give up the most.

Typos were part of the original rant, mind you.
I dunno, but that piece just doesn't sit quite right with me, though I can't put my finger on it exactly... anyone else?

This person's thinking is twisted. Okay, let's say you were going to give up all things Jewish? You wouldn't stop "believing in [Jesus] and going to church" as the two can be classified as being strictly Christian. (Provided that the church that you're going to is, in fact, Christian and not *snerk* Jewish ) You could also pretty much keep all of the parts of the bible that come along with and after the birth of Christ, as Jews worship God and not Jesus. (he was a nut to them, I think--can't be sure, I'm not Jewish). Jesus wasn't just a liberal Jew. He created a cult.
I'm not even going to /touch/ the muslim argument. It's just sad.
My father's an ant-sem, I used to have to suffer through him telling me how the Jews were wrong and needed to repent, yadda, yadda, yadda. This person took a time old argument and butchered it. =_=

From these two, the definintion of anti-Semitism can be pretty much summed up as "a
person opposed to those hailing from Semitic roots, such as an Assyrian, a
Canaanite, a Jew, an Arab, an Ethiopian, etc."
Anti-semitism does not equal jew hater unless they hate everyone else with a semitic background too.
Of course, that isn't terribly relevant, it just bothers me to see that word misused so often.

I can only laugh. I mean, good grief, if you're going to argue something, at least spell it correctly! I mean, oh boy, nobody's going to have much respect for your argument if you can't spell "Jesus."
The funny thing about that argument is that, well, it's so. . . I can't even think of a word. I mean, okay, so let's say that all Christians and Muslims are very, very modified Jews, since both religions were originally derived from Judaism. Now, since poodles were originally descended from wolves, that means a poodle is a very, very modified wolf. EEK, YOU HAVE A WILD ANIMAL IN YOUR HOUSE!
I mean, yeah, technically that poodle is an extremely modified wolf, the product of thousands of years of breeding. But it's still a poodle.
