"Pain and other things"

geeky

Bad news, I somehow royally messed up my foot. Just pain, especially when I walk. I'm thinking it happened during my WiiFit workout.

Good news, I can has calculator! It does the basics, plus square and square root. I'd say it mimics 98% the standard Windows calculator behaviour in terms of pressing buttons twice and such. Now I just have to add tangent, sine, cosine, and absolutes. Then maybe I'll add percentage and memory, though that's not required in the assignment.

Fliers, still looking for flying hints, tips, and suggestions. Kalli suggested Southwest, which I will check out today. I definitely want to avoid any airlines charging for checking in bags. Price becomes too steep if compared to a bus where it'd just cost me time, and I can pay that easily.

And after lo so many months, I have bought manga again, and told the family I can't afford to help too much this month. I needed a fix, and I'm still painfully behind. But I managed to get up to the current (last?) volume of Satisfaction Guaranteed, so I'm happy about that.

Sorry, spammers forced my hand. Comments reviewed before being published.

Whoa, good job with the calculator! I can't even imagine, like, making a GUI, much less a GUI that. . . does stuff.

As for flying, I second the Southwest recommendation. I hear that JetBlue also does cheap flights, but I've never used them and have no idea which airports in California they serve. Buy your ticket as far ahead in advance as possible, of course.

I would not pay more than $110 for a flight from LA to the SF Bay Area, but with fuel costs being what they are, it's causing flights to go up too. (Also, it's summer travel season.) It might be cheaper to fly into OAK rather than SFO, but then consequently you're farther away from the con (which I'm assuming is still in Millbrae), so that's your choice. I'm not sure where in LA you live now, but check to see if BUR or even Ontario airport are closer to you than LAX. It may also be cheaper to fly in/out of BUR or Ontario (I don't know the airport code for that one), and also, it's worth it to avoid LAX if you can. That place is hell.

As you know, liquids in containers larger than 3oz are prohibited in your carry-on unless they're in a quart-sized ziploc bag. The airport will likely not provide these, so just have your liquids/gels packed into a ziploc before you get to the airport.

Alternately, Amtrak is surprisingly cheap, but their service is so slow and awful that I would urge you to Greyhound before taking Amtrak.

Let me know if you have any more questions. This is a flight I made/make extremely regularly.

Hope your foot gets better soon.

I agree with Kalli about Southwest. They're usually the cheapest and the best option of flights. Problem is they have no assigned seating and the seats do tend to be a bit on the smaller size (they're definitely designed to be commuter flights!). For coming in, I'd actually suggest flying to San Jose (as Kalli said about Oakland, more availability and usually bit better prices). Depending on when you get in, I can give you a ride to the con. Or there's a shuttle to the light rail, which... uh, gets you somewhere. Not sure how the Ycon hotel is with public transport.

My friends who don't like Southwest (re the seating) really like Jet Blue. I haven't used them myself, but my friends are pretty happy.

Good heavens, you poor thing! (And who would have thought that a Wii could be so brutal, ne? =;.;= You have my empathy!)

In least your calulator worked, that's a good thing, ne? And you're catching up on your manga, so that will make up for any "down time" while you're recovering!
