//Kit be nice,// the sprite says, finishing the last of the scale removal. He looks at the glistening pieces for a moment, then decides to pocket them for later. Dragon scales make the best jewelry.
"Council City?" Before they blink, Mo`re pulls out a knife and fork, only to be slammed into the groud, courtesy of Gen and her amazing skillet-sama.
"Hah! Serves you right. I doubt if you find any dragonfish there."
"Man, one taste and you've lost what little sense you had. Sentient dragons, Mo`re. These are sentient."
The indrani twitches. "Sorry, imoutochan."
"Hmph." She frees Mo`re of skillet-sama, the indrani popping up, sans silverware.
"That thing gets heavier every time." Teal eyes glance around a moment before resting on Alexandra. "I get that funny feeling you knew this would occur. You're as bad as Nahr, aren't you?"
Nahr himself is leaning against a tree, slightly away from the group yet still in talking range. He rests his chin on the back of his hand for a moment as he ponders Stanos' declaration.
"Hmm, I guess they rebuilt it after that flood cousin left a few hundred millenia ago. It'd be nice to see what they've done to the place."
"Well it doesn't matter one way or another to me. I'm still reserving judgement on the likes of dragons is your world. But is Singer is going, so am I. However," Asmindr flies up and hovers to make sure he has their attention, "before we go anywhere, we need to get out of here. I've quite had my fill of the place."
//is too much gloom for Winter.// The sprite drifts back over to Kaligo, leaning some of his weight against the demon. //is no good for Kaligo, either, Winter thinks.//
"As long as I'm allowed to hide the book first." Nahr glances at Stanos and grins. "I'm afraid the council will just have to trust me on this one, Stanos."

Kitsuki groans. "I don't want to go to any dragon cities, period! Last time I was in one, I got killed!"
"Well, you were stealing something."
"Details. I died." She quiets down, sullenly, as Winter helpfully dislodges some remaining scales.
"And what makes you so sure we'll be visiting a dragon city?" Alexandra asks politely, more because she feels like she could ask than because she doubts the validity of the statement. She can feel it, too, somewhere near the base of her spine.
"Of course." Stanos moves to stand next to her, clearing his throat before drawing himself up.
"We are departing for the Council City today. Now, as a matter of fact." He nods in Kaligo and Kitsuki's general direction. "You will, of course, be granted diplomatic immunity while we are there. I will personally see to it that no harm comes to any of you."
"Oh, that's comforting," Kitsuki mutters to herself.
Stanos continues as if he never heard that remark. "It is the Voice's wish that you all accompany her on this journey. I trust that none of you will. . ." He has to bite back the word "resist." Old habits die hard. ". . . mind."

"Yes," Nahr says, "and I will see it all again. For now, I believe the two will be telling us of our next trip fairly soon. It's been awhile since I've been to one of the dragon clan cities..."
The small dragon looks up, oblivious to having dropped anything on Kit. "Not one of mine, surely."
"'fraid not."
"Well damn," Asmindr huffed. "I don't know if I want to go to one of these dragons' cities. They're not exactly stable."
"And I suppose you are?"
"I am if one doesn't judge me by the company I keep."
"...I smell an insult..."
Winter leaves Kaligo's side, going over to help out Kit as he picks off a few scales her shaking didn't quite lodge off.
//Winter no think Gen mind. is asking when can go, yes?//
"Well I doubt if she'd do anything to Winter if he were the one asking."
"Then it's settled, Winter and Kaligo can go ask."
"I doubt if it will be necessary. Just be patient..."
Nahr's words soon prove true, as the mage is already turning towards the group, tossing her voice back over her shoulder.
"Hell, we're already in travel mode, so let's just go now. We'll see if Naht wants to hide the book first or if he can take care of that himself. Probably already moved it, knowing him."
And that's it. She gives Stanos no more mind as she makes her way back to the group. Once there, she pauses and looks in Stanos' direction.
"Of course, since it's you're idea, you have to tell them..."

Alexandra laughs. Not a half-chuckle or a titter, but a merry peal of laughter, the kind that she probably hasn't laughed in centuries. The sense of humor may not diminish over the centuries, but the number of things you find funny may.
"We live in interesting times," she says, once she's done chortling. "There's been a lot to see."
Scales are raining on my head. . . argh, okay, I'm going bonkers. Kitsuki gets to her feet, shaking herself vigorously to scatter the scales from her fur, and then gets as far away from the preening as possible.
Kaligo, for his part, is completely oblivious to any foresight on Winter's part. "Of course. But do you think it's a good idea to interrupt them?"
"No," Kitsuki says morosely.
"Weren't you the one complaining that you wanted to go home?"
"Fair enough," Stanos says quickly, wincing internally. The Council will not be pleased with this, but it is forgivable. After all, she is the Voice, and if she wants to bring her friends then no dragon will stop her. Even if she has some strange friends. "When will you be ready to leave?"

The scion just offers Alexandra a small smile, one that speaks of many things and nothing at all.
"Of course you do."
I'm sure whatever Singer is doing is important. She would have been here by now otherwise." Asminder sits on Mo`re's shoulder as he takes a moment to preen, flicking off old scales. "But I do wish she'd hurry.
"Well, who volunteers to go over there and see what the holdup is?"
Winter glances over to where the mage and dragon are. While he does want to leave, his natural curiosity is getting the better of him.
What are they talking about? And why does he feel something very big is going to happen? Another afventure? For all his innocence, Winter enjoyed such trips. As long as he had his friends.
//Winter go if Kaligo go with Winter.//
A simple enough statement, though there's something to the sprite's tone that makes mean a lot more than intended for the given moment...
On the other side of events, Gen shakes her head in frustration.
~I should have known this crap was going to catch up to me sooner or later. But if he thinks I'm going alone, he's nuts nuts nuts.~
"Kr'duk, huh? Never heard of it," she says somewhat flippantly. "Well, only way you're getting me to go is if the others can go to. Which means Kit and Kaligo are to be granted diplomatic immunity. I don't know how you demons and dragons get it on here, but I'm guessing it's not pretty. Still, Winter likes Kaligo a lot. Something happens to him, Win cries. You've seen how I feel about Win crying.
"Kit, I suppose she has her uses... somewhere." Gen ponders this for a moment, trying to convince herself of that. "Yeah, they're somewhere, I'm sure. Anyway, my companions go, or I don't go. Fair enough?"
~Cause I'll be damned if I get caught up in something alone. I go down, everyone's coming with me for the ride.~

Sat, 11-23-2002
Alexandra raises an eyebrow, smile betraying nothing. "I see."
I see. Not "Wow" or "I see I'm traveling in mixed company" or anything witty or whimsical. Just "I see."
(Was she there when the sun was lit? Was she from one of the first eggs that the All-Mother laid? Was she there when the All-Mother went into the center of the world to sleep? The length of life of the Ruby dragons is legend only; they are dragons like any other, they simply live a little longer than most. But was she there, anyway?)
Kitsuki groans. "Can we go home now?"
"I hope so," Kaligo says, more in response to Winter's question, simultaneous with Asmindr's answer. "I don't like this place at all."
"Well, Gen seems to be taking her sweet time over there. The hell are they doing, anyway?"
Stanos stands, uncertainly. He's not certain of the protocol in the presence of the--what should he call her? The Messenger? The Prophet? The Voice? "To Kr'duk, the Council City," he says, regaining some of his old poise. He wants to say more, but what can he say? That she must go before the Council? That she has work to do? She's the one who decides whether to go or not, though Stanos used the word "must." She must go, yes; it is a matter of dragon lore and prophecy. But Tilbairn gave her children choice, as well.

"I'm the scion of universal, cosmic Order. And a right pain it can be," Nahr muses. "My cousin, and I use the term loosely, is the scion of Chaos. There's the nine and seven aspects... a boring tale that I won't go into right now."
~Mainly because it would take me a few millenia to sum it all up.
Mo`re just looks down at the upturned fox before shaking his head. "I have news for you, Kitsuki-luvluv. When it comes to universal bad luck, you are the biggest target I've ever seen. And coming from a man who dies at least once every other day, that's saying a lot."
Even Winter giggles at that. After a moment, the sprite sighs and slips his hand into Kaligo's
//is done? have book now, so go soon?//
"I certainly hope so. This place is dreary on a good day."
The mage just gives him a blank look. Most of the dragons she's been around ranged from scholars to mystics, from teachers to lowlives and con artists. Yes, there was honour, but it wasn't as big a deal as she guessed Black dragons made it out to be.
Not to mention, anything having to do with her unrequested destiny still rubbed Gen the wrong way, though she remained neutral about it for the most part.
"Ye-ah. Alright. Now where is it I supposedly must go with you to?"
