(12:10 pm PT) - ugh
[link] - (hot)

Sorry, between past Friday, dealing with a sister I despise, people I don't know and will never see again, final essay assignments, lack of funds through no fault of my own, and unseasonably hot weather, posting just wasn't in the cards for a few.

The funeral. It... went. There were moments where my brother and I were nudging each other due to humorous events that of course one can't actually laugh at being it is a funeral. Then there was the Wicked Witch of Westwood, aka the older sister. If ever there is a reason to explain why I don't like her, this exchange probably clarifies.

Her: Man, I got swamped by people there for a bit wanting to talk to me.
Me: Well they thought I was you, so I corrected them.
Her: So you're the reason they swamped me.
Me: (coldly) Consider it payback for your father's funeral. (she didn't attend, so imagine what happened to me at that one.)

I mean when the hell did I sign on as her stunt double just because she doesn't like dealing with these people? And it wasn't just me, they confused my younger sister for her, too. And we just politely corrected them. Playing the role of 'Erica' was never in the job description, and we shouldn't have to. It's bad enough we got old biddies coming up asking point blank, "And what is your relation to Mother Shells?" Bri was nice about it and just said she was another granddaughter. Me? "None of your concern, I'm here to mourn her passing, just like you."

Gah, hate funerals. As a result, mom has left explicit instructions that we're not to have a funeral, but cut straight to a party. I told her I have no problems with that seeing I'd likely get rip-roaring drunk anyway, but if any of her sister's branch show up, the civil gloves would come off. Her response? "I'll be dead, do what you want." I'm holding her to that.

School. Well, seems I'll get an A after all from the networking class, but I was a bit presumptuous about the next one. The instructor is striking me as even more anal retentive than the last. What other impressions can you give for someone who has instructions on how to format your emails when asking him a question? If it were something simple like include the class section in the subject, no problem. No, we're talking about he wants name, first and last, section number, and 'incident' in the subject, then the body he lists where the salutation should go, and to repeat the name and class section number. I'm about ready to call up student services and ask who is working for who, the instructor for the student or the student for the instructor? I can be sympathetic about the workload instructors have up to a point. When they try and force students to have everything in neat little packages just so their job can be easier, I have problems, and lose respect for them.

Anyhow, tis cooler today, thank fates. So hopefully I can get back to a semi-productive state fairly soon. And if I owe you a reply to something, just remind me.

April was a rough month, moreso than I thought it would be.

(9:05 am PT) - In my size? Really?
[link] - (hot)

Next major purchase to save for Warning, slow loading images for fabric patterns.

No, not a hint. I'm going to save for it, or get it after the con if I have any left over funds. I do purple fairly well, so I'll probably lean towards the purple flying crane pattern.

Kalli, your bday snuck up on me, because I keep thinking your in August. Suggestions?

Mina: Your fic... will be written soon. As for me... um... crud, I'll have to go over what I know we actually have in common in way of anime/manga. Actually, we probably have a lot more than I'm thinking, I just haven't gotten around to playing catch-up on a lot of things.

(8:04 pm PT) - Hot...
[link] - (hot)

I really have to add that comment feed. I keep forgetting.

Kit, shipping to me is probably better, since Paypal takes fees out when people send me money.

Kalli, actually, if there's anything else on the list you think would be easier to get, feel free. And dammit, I forgot about Wild Rock. ::grumbles::

(6:40 pm PT) - I'm melting...
[link] - (hot)

It's hot... again. Damn psycho Cali weather. So this is going to be an SnS post: Short n Sweet.

Ronda, Larissa, just give me a time and day so I can make sure I'm not doing any volunteer work. I missed going to Japantown last year, so I'd like to make it this year.

Mirchan, I'm waiting for my room to cool off before I can think about writing. Though still miss chatting with you.

Sharachan, again, thank you. I was dreading either paying for a cab or trying to get around by bus at that time on night.

Now if I can handle getting to the hotel on the 27th, I'm gold.

::goes to melt some more::

(3:00 pm PT) - Ugh
[link] - (hot)

It is entirely too freakin' hot. Nothing is getting done by me until the sun sets.

I have two fans. I'm going for three.

No, there's no point to this. I'm melting and feel like whining about it.

That is all.

(6:14 pm PT) - Few mill probably rejoucing, or recovering from withdrawels
[link] - (hot)

So LJ's back up. People, backup blogs. That's my advice. (And give me the links so I can keep up with you.) For communities, message boards.

Always have an alternate route. Why do you think I was able to say Yaoiville is down when LJ was up? Or vice versus. (Of course if they both go down... wait, I have a blogger, nevermind.)

Nostalgia week officially started yesterday. I just forgot to mention what with knowing most LJ people wouldn't see it anyway. (BTW, if you rely solely on Locuran's feed through LJ, you might want to come over in case you missed some posts during the outtage.) As it is, I'm actually too tired to grab my Slayers tape at the moment. It's very hot in my room, and I just finished walking. However, I think I'll pop in #1 around 8ish, so the fun begins.

Poor Zel.

Now to go finish moving some fics over from GM to Nucleus. Man, I didn't realise how many FFX fics I had written during that period. Viva la Lyric Wheels.

(4:10 pm PT) - So, another host
[link] - (hot)

I think my domain's been resolved. Not sure, so I'll test later. I can already say I'm more than happy with the support given, and now doubly pissed at Exovian. Once again the account was transfered, and once again I couldn't control Cpanel. Sent in a ticket, and Thomas, the one who emailed me about LiveHost from jumpstreet, said the old host was using a custom theme for Cpanel, so when transfered, the resulting lack of said theme caused cpanel to break. He fixed it by pointing it to a new theme, and bam, I've got cpanel access again. This took all of 5-10 minutes, just because of email speed.

This is all Exovian had to do, I'm sure. But instead, they want to claim it's on my end, and they can access it just fine. That last part was probably bull. And now the bastars don't want to answer me when I tell them I want my money back. No surprise there. But if they think I'm going to roll over and just take the loss, they're sadly mistaken.

So far, though, Livehost, while admittedly a bit more expensive, is working well. If their support remains as good as it's been today, and their uptime is steady, I think I'll hang with them for awhile.

Maybe now I can work on Bryony, and setting up that background graphics gallery.

This message brought to you by a very nude LN, because it's currently too hot to think about clothes.

::jiggles for the monitor::

Edit: a quick check revealed that yes, the domain has been resolved. So if you're reading this post, your ISP has loaded the new nameservers. Bully bully.

(2:09 pm PT) - Nothing of utter importance
[link] - (hot)

I would just like to thank Kalli for the material now quoted on the titlebar here at Locuran. That quote is now burned forever into memory, even when taken out of context.

(12:37 pm PT) - heat - 1; LN - 0.2; Comp - 0
[link] - (hot)

At least, those will be the scores if I don't hurry up and turn this off. It's too hot, and even if I can get away with suffering under a fan, for all the good that does me, I know the comp isn't meant for this.

However, I will hopefully be sinking yet more money, and invest in a window AC. My room is small. (I believe we've established on several occasions that it's actually a closet with an identity complex.) So the AC should workout, and I can use the comp during the day.

For now, I'm shutting down, and not turning it back on until either I get teh AC, or after dusk/the temp drops.

Until then, all you people living/working with AC, I hate your guts, in that still love you, but would rip you off for your AC sort of way.

Later.

(4:04 pm PT) - Ouch
[link] - (hot)

Not only is it hot, it's humid. That's not right in SoCal.

But without bad luck, I'd have no luck.

Screw you [intangible noun here], I'm taking a shower.

(Have fun with that last one, I'm too hot to make sense at this point.)

(2:03 pm PT) - too farkin' hot
[link] - (hot)

Domino -Yes, Vega would be a lovely housewarming gift, thank you.
Kit - Not sure yet, we just know we're leaving. There's actually a nice house (dear god, a house) down the way, but I'd rather leave this area altogether (even though it's mainly the apartments I'm in that make the whole stinkin' place leave a bad taste in my mouth.

I type this in the complete and unadulterated nude (I'm sure I was cuter when I was born this way, though). If you want to know why, that's because...
IT'S TOO FARKIN' HOT
So hot that I didn't want to use red for that, just looking at it would make me hotter.

So as I sit here in the nude, I will force upon you various poses as I type, all sans clothing.

1. /^_^\
2. /~_^\
3. /^o^\
4. /*v*\
5. m/~_~\m

Yes, yes, all in the nude. Thank you, thank you.

(9:16 pm PT) - More blogathon stuff...
[link] - (hot)

I'll be social either later tomorrow, so no, I'm not ignoring anyone. It's just humid and hot in my area, leaving me drained.

Anyway, the point to this post. Some of the other BTers have offered their own talents as sponsor gifts/thank yous, so I thought I'd let everyone know.

Updates posted here at at the summary site as they come.

(5:29 pm PT) - Yes, it's a desert
[link] - (hot)

I'm still gone, just wanted to post quickly...
Las Vegas is like downtown L.A. It just has smaller buildings, more neon lights, and Elvis impersonators.

Domino's a great host. Especially for dealing with my constant complaining of the heat.

Ki - Sorry, not sure if I can get on. She's on dial-up, and I don't want to keep her phone line tied up.

And dear god, I'll never complain about the heat in my apartment again.

That's all for now... post again when I get home.

(2:38 pm PT) - I'm not celebrating theft, thanks.
[link] - (hot)

Amberlee - You're quite correct in the trends going either overly critical or lame duck. However, I personally find I can handle lame duck a lot better. I don't have to read the fics put out, especially if the majority is garbage. And writing in such a fandom is infinitely easier. If the majority of fics is bad, can mine be that much worse anyway? But overly critical makes it hard on writers. When a fandom falls into this trap, a writer has to have every freaking i dotted and t crossed. And nevermind the fact that you're putting canon characters in a non-canon situation, where it's impossible to predict how they'll react, you as a writer had better make damn sure they stay in character.

Which confuses the hell out of me when this kind of attitude comes from a yaoi group. HelLO? If it's not a shounen-ai/shoujo series to begin with, then anything yaoi is going to be non-canon, period. Yes, we can infer that something was going on between, say, Braska and Auron in FFX, but it's not stated explicitly in the game itself, so any stories writing them as a pair is automatically a non-canon story, period.

What truly irks me about this type of behavior is that people who complain are using their perception to determine what is right and wrong. If I were to have a PWP with Sora and Riku, and person A doesn't like it because they're just mid-teens (yeah, like teens that age aren't having sex), they say the fic is wrong, bad, etc, just because it disturbs their delicate senses. Personally, I don't like death fics. Does it make all death fics bad? Well now it depends on what your audience is, because if they're anything like the people I've encountered, it just may very well be.

As for the Mary/Gary S/tue explosion, all i can think is that it's a bunch of teens who finally got to see it on local TV. You know the type, they claim a character is theirs (i.e. soulbond, though I don't see that term too much anymore), and they're basically writing out their daydream. All well and good, but if they could be less blatant about it, or share it amongst their private circle of friends so the rest of us don't get hurt by the sheer wrongness of writing.

It's okay to daydream, I do it all the time. It's okay to wish we were perfect/sassy/beautiful/et cetera. But I wish these particular writers would broaden their horizon a bit. That, or quit reading those Harlequin romance books.

Now those... those are dangerous.

Okay, I'm rambling off. In short, Lame Duck is bad if you're a reader, Overly Critical is worse if you're a writer.

On a totally unrelated note. (I've been doing that a lot lately.) I want to know what IDIOT came up with the idea to celebrate summer holidays by having your face stuck in a pit of fire?

And I'm not celebrating today. All those saying I'm unpatriotic can kiss off. This land was stolen, thank you, as were my ancestors. When the native people of this land get it back, and the contract about 40 acres and a mule is honored, then maybe I'll celebrate it.

(8:58 pm PT) - heat and lethargy, take one
[link] - (hot)

There's nothing to write about, hence why I'm only posting every other day. Better than typing up a bunch of nothing. Waste of our time, yes?

It's been quite hot, and I'm not privileged with anything as luxurious as air-control. So, I suffer. Pro, builds character. Con, I can't do anything, really. It's hard trying to sit down and think of the current project to complete when all you can do is lay on your bed as close to naked as you can possibly get and which for the next ice age.

In totally unrelated news, I made a small movie of my room for Ki. She asked for pictures originally, I don't know why.

I found a KH sotry I started and want to finish, but another part asks, "Why bother?" Good question, and I couldn't think of a good answer, least not right now. It's also the reason I haven't written this DMC fic in my head. Really, what's the point? Who cares?

Such a different feeling than in the beginning, where if you wrote, you didn't have to worry about people trying to compare fanfiction to that of a world class novel.

For the record, and again unrelated, Firehouse and HotDog press are my current favourite doujinshi circles.

This is, or was, supposed to only be an "I'm still breathing" post. More's the pity there.

I'm going to sit here and listen to some artificial rain now, and some Enya.

(2:49 pm PT) - Random suckage and words twining around heat
[link] - (hot)

(Because I don't feel like making multiple post, unrelated topics are just smushed together in this one.)

First up - geekspeak
Let's see. Script status. Couldn't use that really nice looking table editing generator code. It requires a class and makes it a bit hard to hack (I want the admin script to have a session/login ability.) So I just went ahead and started writing it myself.
Display set amount of records with prev/next link to other records - check
Display editing form with pre-filled values - check
Error checking of form values - check
Update record upon submit of editting form - check
TODO: (in order of importance)
delete record function
add new record
login page
add config table
ability to upload template files through admin
choose to allow/disallow php code in content

Next - Socialize
Moonchan - Thanks for the encouragement. I'm trying (boy am I trying).

Mirchan - How's life on your end? Any less hectic? If so, throw a date at me to chat. It's been, oh, a small eternity now? RL just likes butting in, doesn't it?

Domino - I finally have a set month, just not a date. How's July sound? And any news on your con situation?

Kit - For prom night, I'd suggest those of you who are legal go to a male strip joint. Either you'll see a guy good enough to actually want to stick quarters money down his thong, or you'll get some of the best laughs ever. BTW, what's the answer for the 31st and the comp swapmeet? The parental-type unit said she'd have access get you, and I think we're making it a semi-family thing, so her and David probably, not sure about her annoying bf Marlon, but he's easily ignorable. Oh yes, as for Notus, I was waiting to see if you and Dagger were going to do anything else. Are you?

Mina - No worries, RL is being a bitch, is all.

Finally - (Random word descriptive type piece)
